Current Events > So I guess Nintendo is going to string the 3DS along with lazy remakes for a bit

Nintendo isn't going to admit the 3DS is on it's way out - for sure not without a successor established. Bad for business obviously.

So what do they do? In typical Nintendo fashion, release the laziest games possible with the objective to minimize effort/costs and maximize profits. This is achieved in the form of lazy ports and remasters

Let's take a look:

- Mario and Luigi Superstar Saga (I honestly have no idea what this game is but apparently it's a lazy remake cashgrab)
- Pokemon Ultra sun and moon (I don't play pokemon but this is an obvious lazy cashgrab)
- Apparently they're remaking a metroid game from the SNES or something (again, I don't follow metroid)

And for the anime crowd we got some Atlus remasters

- Strange Journey remaster (I played this game like 6 or 7 years ago, it was horrible)
- Radiant Historia (never played but looks lame)
- Etrian Odyssey (again, don't play these but you can tell that every Etrian Odyssey game is basically a rehash)

Round out the ports and lazy remakes with some shovelware aimed for preschoolers like Ever Oasis and Pikmin and you've basically got the 2017 3DS lineup. Sad part? You'll see people on these boards frothing at the mouth for these things because Nintendo fans are so starved for games.

It's sad, I used to like the 3DS. I wish they would just let it die with dignity.

Mario and Luigi has that new mini game that looks kinda fun. And we don't know how identical it will be to the original game. Could be promising.

We know literally nothing about Pokemon yet.

And the Metroid 2 remake looks like it has the potential to do some new stuff.

I mean I get it, remakes are kind of lame and Nintendo sucks. I agree. But right now we don't know the details.

There's a new game mode in it where you play as Bowser's minions, and it ties into the main story.

The new Metroid looks dope as fuck though.

The M&L remake is adding a new minigame thing called Bowser's Minions. It's a light strategy game that looks kinda fun. And there is some cut content I'd like to see, such as all the cameos at Starbeans Cafe. Until I know more though, I'd say it's probably not worth it. I mean even visually I always preferred how the original Superstar Saga looked compared to the latest Mario and Luigi graphics that were introduced in Dream Team.

It's a handheld that's been out for 6 years and they've released the Switch. Remakes and spin-offs are better than nothing.

The 3DS is at the end of its life and the Switch is portable. Obviously the majority effort is not being placed on the 3DS.

The Switch may have just came out, but has beaten the Wii's sale benchmarks and it's on track to be Nintendo's best selling console yet. It might potentially outsell the DS.

The biggest difference is that Switch is a portable console. That adds a lot of value.

The Kirby, Yoshi and Xenoblade games are all sequels too.
