Like anything you want to get better in; try it, reflect on the results, and think on how you can improve. Then do it all over.

FPS games it depends on the game.
Skills that make you amazing at BF1 will NOT (mostly) transfer to say Infinite Warfare.
Some basics:
- Be aware of the map. Know all the best vantage points and corridors. Learn them well. And be a saware as you can of enemy locations.
- Don't rush. Take your time, wait for a better shot if you need to. Don't waste grenades. Make everything count.
- Pick one or two guns and only use those for a while. Find their ideal range, recoil, time to kill. If they don't click with you" move on to another set.
- Reflexes are key. If you have bad reflexes, you're going to die. A lot. Do training missions, do the story mode" play alternate modes. Just find a way to train those reflexes as best you can.

Map + spawn knowledge and good decision making are the most important parts of being at least decent at FPS games. Good aim happens over time, and great reflexes aren't needed that often if you don't put yourself in stupid situations.

The only way to get good at fighting games is to practice. Unless you want to be a scrub then don't practice.
