so my bathtub suddenly got stopped up and water wont go down at all. i used an air cylinder plunger and water started spraying outta the area where you open & close the drain. did i burst a pipe? the piping is accessible in my bedroom closet and theres no sign of water in closet at all. anyone got some ideas on what to do or is there a plumber hotline i can call for advice?

If you did burst a pipe or have any kind of leak you need to turn off your water main and you'll have to wait until business hours tomorrow.

not outta the faucet. theres a metal plate with a switch on it that controls if the drain is open or closed. thats where the water was spraying from

Does it constantly spray out, or only if you use the sink or something else?

this started after i used the sink & water bubbled outta the bathtub drain. i turned the water to the bathtub off. it stopped spraying out atm

I don't think it's a burst pipe. Drain pipes are usually at least 3 inches and they're never under pressure. Chances are it's clogged pretty good so if you're able to, remove the drain cover if there is one and get a plumbing snake to try and clear the obstruction. If that doesn't work you'll probably have to call a plumber

just the plate off the drain to get the snake down the drain pipe

The part of the tub with the plate covering it is the overflow drain. It's connected in the wall to the drain on the bottom of the tub. It's to prevent the tub from overflowing if you leave the water running.

Since the drain is clogged, the air you tried to blow down the main drain went backwards out of the overflow. You'll have to block the overflow drain if you want to use a plunger to clear the drain. Probably not recommended, though. Use a snake or drain cleaner.

If you had burst a water pipe, you would know right away.

after using the air plunger on the drain water sprayed out for about a minute then stopped after i shut off both bathtub water valves. about 20 minutes later water started spraying out again even when it wasnt plunged for a bit. also i did temporarily turn the water back on and it sprayed out so i shut it off again. currently both valves are on without water spraying out

5 hours since there was any problem but just a few minutes ago water started spraying out of the overflow again. i noticed this happened the same time as the washing machine was running. this happened while the bathtub water was shutoff btw @Squall344 @Balkov

No, there is pressurized water in the supply pipes all the time. If it was a burst pipe it would be constantly leaking.

If water comes out the bathtub overflow drain when the washing machine empties that means the clog somewhere in the drains after the 2 lines get joined together on the way out of the house.

Yup you got yourself a clog. Gl getting it undone I had one that even 6-8 bottles of drano-like couldnt fix (if at first you don't succeed... Try it 5 more times! /S).
Had to call a dude to go under my house and flush out the pipe because the blockage was too tough for the snake to fix (length wasn't an issue).

cant atm but theres a large pipe running under the drain and water is spraying out of it real badly. my crawl space is totally flooded

If it's happening when the washer runs, this is what I think happened. There is a serious clog inside the drain and the pump inside the washer is forcing the water out of the washer with enough force that it is spraying out of the blue pipe. You'll have to turn the washer off and not use it until you are able to clear the pipe yourself, or call a licensed plumber to have it done.

drano only works if it is a certain substance that is trying to break....
does work on clogs of fat (for people who pour that stuff down the drain and we told not to do this).

Wait wait ALL the piping? This dude might be trying to take you. id try to get a second opinion if you can. Seems steep for a cracked pipe, unless it created more damage somehow i suppose

Sounds like you may have a serious clog in your plumbing, maybe you're lateral line(it connects your homes plumbing with the sewer line) may be clogged or damaged from tree roots.

instead of all the piping they replaced the pipe behind the overflow plate. well they fixed the leak but theres some weird blockage in the sewer and theyre gonna have to dig into the yard. total cost so far is 4200 bucks
