"oh, it's ok if they never make blah blah but if they remade the original I'd be fine with that"

What needs to be remade are bad movies/books/games/whatever that have good ideas, but maybe weren't executed well. Stop trying to fix stuff that wasn't broken in the first place.

There are lots of games I'd like to see remade, mostly because the original idea was great, but the execution was flawed. For example, Simon's Quest has been in my wish just for 20+ years now.

The thing is, I think most people ask for remakes of games they really enjoyed years ago that probably don't need one because they were already solid.

I'm fine with your idea of what a remake should be though. I'm also okay with remakes of games I've personally never played. Or remakes that make the multiplayer in a particular game relevant again. But for games I have played, I want a sequel, not a remake.

Games that had a good premise but were excecuted poorly or were limited by the tech of the day could do with a remake. The ill-fated 3DO console alone most likely has more than a dozen games deserving a modern-day remake. PO'ed, Return Fire, Escape from Monster Manor, Immercenary, Crash 'n Burn, Killing Floor, and so on. Give those forgotten games a rebirth with smoother framerate, improed visuals and audio, more responsive controls, bugfixes, and beneficial features (such as online multiplayer for Return Fire), but leave the core gameplay itself as intact as possible.

However, I dislike reboots. Or more precisely, the term itself. It insinuates that the older games were inferior. GTA4 isn't called a reboot of GTA3, just like GTA5 isn't a reboot of GTASA. If there's anything we've learned recently it's that movie reboots don't hold a candle to the original. How many of you remember the Total Recall reboot? How many will remember it in 10 years? Not many, I'm guessing.

So, to reiterate: A game that failed to achieve greatness despite possessing the ingredients for it would certainly deserve a second chance, but games that already are great don't need a reboot to bring it into the modern age. A remastering, perhaps, but not a clean slate start.

Sigs are rather pointless, except if it's to showcase animation and images.

I would typically agree, except in the case of Spyro.

We need a remake to reaffirm to the company that people want the og Spyro and not this money grubbing Skylanders beat-em-up bullshit.
Our only chance of getting new quality Spyro games is if the remake sells well.

GTA IV was a reboot of the GTA universe though...
