For the most part, yeah. Mortal Kombat is an exception though.

I gotta say, the Super Mario Super Show was decent.

It gets knocked for the animation quality and reliance on spoofs, but the characterizations were pretty solid and it did give an occasional glimpse of what a straightforward adaptation might have been like. Even some of the fights were pretty decent.

If nothing else, I like the characterizations that they gave to Mario and Bowser and I like that their rivalry was a 60/40 split instead of Mario winning every time.

Sonic Boom is way better than I expected it to be based on the couple of episodes I watched.

But yeah I'd say so. Especially since the cartoons tend to do their own thing with the characters.

Also the legend of Zelda cartoon every Friday. Also Sonic SatAM was pretty legit vs adventures which was running at the same time.

I should probably rewatch the Legend of Zelda cartoon.

The Super Mario Bros. Super Show was mostly before my time. I caught a few episodes when I was 4 or 5, but I mostly remember the series from when the animation portions were repacked as part of Super Mario All-Stars. As such, I completely missed out on the experience of getting to see Legend of Zelda every Friday. I bought the DVD, watched the series once, and that was it. Overall, I'm a lot less familiar with it and probably less nostalgic for it since it wasn't a part of my childhood.

I liked the characters in it, but I don't think I'd want any of those interpretations adopted into the main series. With Super Mario Bros., I think Lou Albano and Harvey Atkin portrayed Mario and Bowser as they should be. With Legend of Zelda, they felt like characters from an anime series. I liked the tomboy princess, the horny hero, and the even hornier fairy, but they're not the personalities I'd want to canonize for characters like Link and Zelda.

That said, I would totally welcome that version of Link in a Smash Bros. game. "Well, excuuuuuse me!"
