You know, there was another cartoon around this time period that I really enjoyed, but at the same time, it seemed that I may have been one of the few. Mighty Ducks.

I honestly liked it much more than the movies that inspired it.

(I mean, alien ducks with hockey-themed weaponry fighting evil alien dinosaurs is a bit better than underdog hockey players winning in spite of the odds, at least to me.)

That being said, Gargoyles was definitely the better cartoon by far.

Whoever they got to do that really captured the 70s-80s arena rock/hair metal era well. It's too bad the lyrics had to be about ducks. That was still pretty good for a kids show theme. There aren't many that compete.

I know I'm having a lot of fun with the Macbot thing, but this is also one of the best episodes for a different reason.

Xanatos captures Hudson to test a magical cauldron that will "grant him immortality." That's been and will continue to be his motivation going forward. He has tried no less than 2-3 other items (with others yet to come), all to find out they weren't what they were cracked up to be. They have built on that premise since "The Edge" episode. The show does a lot of world building, but I found it to be one of the stronger subplots.

I remember asking Greg Weisman about Xanatos once, and he said the reason he is searching for immortality is because he himself is scared shitless of dying. I can only imagine that being ramped up due to Xanatos's wealth, status, and overall almost divinity compared to other people in the cartoon. He reminds me a lot of Gilgamesh all things considered. I don't know if that is where Weisman got the idea, but the motivation is probably the most primal human emotion there is: wanting to avoid growing old, feeble, and dying. I know I certainly don't like the inevitability either. I get chills and tears even thinking about my parents dying someday, much less myself.

The Native American and Loch Ness eps are bleh. It takes a lot to skip Sevarius (love me some Tim Curry villainy), but bleh.

That has to be a synth flute. However, the fact there were heavy guitars in the background is what made me happy. They even had a cool extra "hammer/anvil" drum effect.

I can handle some of the plotlines in this season, but Goliath in a court room, with a nerdy ass defense lawyer? No wonder Weisman hates this. That's not even counting some of the episode I skipped over. I want to be done today, so I'll move to the last episode.

Edit: I forgot how long the series was. Anyway, as goofy as some of the stories were, at least they ended in a decent way. Lots of subterfuge, and then crazy action. Same with Hunter's Moon. I'm glad I went back and watched "most" of this series, taking that stroll down memory lane for a good week. It was nice that people posted, sharing some of the nostalgia too.

Question I have now is if I keep watching stuff like this or head back into anime land. Netflix backlog IS piling up.
