Is it considered a plot twist? Wasn't it always marketed as a vampire movie?

Yes. The plot twist was the vampires not showing up until the third act in the movie.

By the way, the tv show goes off the rails too by the end of the first season.

yea i watched the first season of the show and it kind of sucked

I actually really like the start of the movie and the potential it had. I mean I still like it for what it is but it could've been legit good.

I had never actually heard of it at all the first time I saw it. So I had no idea vampires were coming. I thought of watching a Tarantino movie about a criminal and a sociopath kidnapping a family to escape the law. Then I get a weird stripping scene then BOOM! Campy and ridiculous vampire battle for the rest of the movie. It was great when you see it that way.

It's a shame it was advertised as a vampire movie though.

Like, once you get done beating your meat to Selma Hayek's little introduction, you might as well just turn the movie off.

Same. I watched it when I went on a Tarantino kick, went into it completely blind.
It was a really cool turn and a fun movie, but I still sometimes wonder what could've been.

I still find it hard to believe that Tarantino wrote that. In my opinion, he's one the GOAT filmmakers. You'd think he of all people would know that about world building or gradual build up to something.

There was none of that here. The vampires just quite literally showed up. No hints to their presence or anything regarding the supernatural in this world. Then we finally get a shoehorned explanation near the end of the movie.

i think it's a lot easier to watch the movie in 2017 than when it first came out because you can view it as a sort of collab between robert rodriguez and tarantino, although ultimately this is a robert rodriguez flick with tarantino dialogue.

the tarantino crime story and the robert rodriguez schlocky b-movie gore are not woven together expertly but rather slapped together which i think is a bit more fun for this kind of movie. it's unexpected and if you view this as a fan of both of these guys and as someone who loves crappy exploitation/b-movies, then it's just a good time. i like to think this is a movie that was made for fun by guys who love these kinds of movies and wanted to do something crazy and different, rather than a commercial movie made to please as many audiences as possible.

you have prime george clooney, salma hyek being hot, tarantino licking toes, lots of gore, danny trejo, harvey keitel, cheech marin, tarantino in a starring role, etc. good stuff

It's even worse trying to watch it now when you taken into account that both Tarantino and Rodriguez have crazier, more off-the-wall B-movie esque films that
are better put together such as Kill Bill for the former and Machete for the latter. Not to mention a better collaboration between the two in the form of Grind House (even though Death Proof is the weakest film Tarantino has directed, it's still tons of fun).

I'm serious. Death Proof is fantastic. Have you even seen the director's cut version?
