Sears is supposed to be closing too by the end of the year followed by JC Penney next year.

It seems like all the monuments to the 20th century shopping experience are dying out in the 21st century.

I really liked it there. Great store for anyone with an electronics hobby. Used to pick up speaker bits like crossovers and wire terminals all the time for my speaker builds.

When I was 10, my parents bought a Tandy computer there in 1985

Piece of crap cost 1000 bucks, but wouldn't play a single game of the era because it only had 128k memory.

Mine was still open but I had no idea who would go there.

Still have one open in the closest town to me. They focused way too much on middle of the store displays and less on having what the fuck I need in stock whenever I tried going into one. A lot of basic things like HDMI cables were overpriced also. They were doomed to fail in this modern age, good riddance.

it's a shame, really. they were a prime spot for electronic components for a long time, but they shifted more toward personal electronics (particularly cell phones) in an attempt to stay relevant. thing is, they weren't any better than their competitors in that field, and they stopped carrying nearly as many components and DIY stuff for hobbyists. there simply wasn't any reason to go to a Radio Shack anymore

Its because yall are shopping at the evil corporation of Walmart. Those assholes charge med $100 for insurance and fired me the next day, cancelled my health insurance and refused to give back the $100

It's a no man's electronic store now and whoever owns the spot they were leasing might as well send in the wrecking ball because it won't be used again anytime soon and would have more value as a parking lot.

kinda like the abandoned shopping malls that blanket the U.S.

This is concerning. First circuit city, then hhgregg, now radioshack. What's going on? The only electronics store left now is best buy.

I worked at one a few holiday seasons, around 2001-2002. It was fucking awful but then again I hate forcing shit on people. I was forced to ask for phone numbers which half the people got offended about, peddle for the most part shit products and offers, and sales "incentives" were tracked much like Gamestop. Really they run (ran) on similar business models, hopefully I'll get to witness the fall of them someday too.

I did burn the bridge though, got drunk one night and banged an ex, was supposed to open and said fuck it. It was a second job anyway.

Good riddance.

Quit my job at Radioshack in January and I only kind of regret it because on the days where my manager wasn't there I could stay in the back room and watch Netflix all day. Easiest money I ever made.
