I don't understand the appeal with George at all, but then I didn't grow up with him and didn't learn of him until I was well outside the demographic.

I grew up with the books and my favorite plushie was George. And now I'm reading them to my son and HIS favorite plushie is George. It really warms my heart.

As for the character himself, George was great because he always let his curiosity run wild and it got him into trouble. But then he found a way to turn things around and solve a problem for someone else. He teaches kids that you can mess up, but then find a way to make up for it.

I'm honestly puzzled how you seem familiar with DBZ and even liked some of its characters a lot like Freeza (if I'm remembering right), but hate Android 18 enough to give her the lowest possible score. I've never encountered someone who actually liked the show and hated her before. To each his own I guess.

I'm all about Vegeta and Goku. Love Piccolo too. But got no feelings towards Gohan or 18. I don't understand why 18 gets love...she is just a sidekick to 17 and then a character married to...Krillin, yawn.

She is in every 3rd episode with very little dialogue or contribution to story.

If it's indifference instead of hate, I get that, since she hasn't been used all that much after the androids arc.

But she's actually my favorite character in the franchise, and I like a lot of them (Vegeta comes in 2nd for me). The reason I love her character, and I think it may apply to others, is first of all the total ass kicking she gave Vegeta right when he was so overconfident about being the strongest there is. Also, I'm all about strong female characters, and she is the one female character in the series who can hold her own. I could go on but that's the major stuff.

There's just a few characters I get overly defensive about and she's one of them!

I like 18, but I think Bulma is a "stronger" character than she is. She's more developed and her viewpoint is explored more.

I once heard someone say that people who think of "strong female characters" often thing "a female character who is strong" when it should be "strong character who is female". I think that's very apt.

Also what the hell are you guys doing to The Doctor?! And Revan?

She's certainly more developed, she's even been there since Goku was a little kid. But I have mixed feelings about Bulma. I like when she's portrayed as the genius, but all too often throughout the original series and a good chunk of DBZ, I feel she comes across as overly emotional or is used for comic relief. Even in DBZ, she was shown to be swooning over some villain until he transformed into an ugly state and then she freaked out. This kind of stuff undermines her character for me.

That being said, I give her credit for not being afraid to stand up to anyone despite having no abilities.

I agree, this is a great way to describe how to write a good female character.

And I didn't get into it, but 18 is more than just a powerful character, it's just the most obvious thing to like about her. She is often shown to have a strong personality as well. If you watch Super, she pushes Krillin to become stronger and push himself, and she's the only one who sees through another character's bullshit in a recent story arc.

I haven't seen Super. I probably will at some point, but no plans to right now.

Like I said I do like 18. She's in my top 10 DB characters for sure. I just think Bulma is better because she's shown to be a great supporting character with her own agency. In fact in early DB she arguably drove the plot more than Goku. She was good throughout Dragon Ball, she was good on Namek, she was good with Vegeta; just a fun and well-done character. Definitely best in original Dragon Ball, though.

One thing I like about 18 that is often overlooked is her appearance in GT of all things. Her portrayal in the Super 17 arc was fantastic and heartbreaking. There's a lot to dislike about that show, but that is one of the better things about it.

Anyway, any DB female is better than Chi-Chi. Yeugh.

Round 1 Results Day 2
Group 3
50 Luke Skywalker (Star Wars)
38 Gaston (Beauty and Beast)
32 Mulan (Mulan)
16 Ariel (Little Mermaid)
----
-10 Moana (Moana)
-12 Mr. Incredible (The Incredibles)
----
-14 Meta Knight (Kirby)
-24 Rey (Star Wars)
-26 Phil Coulson (Marvel's Agent of SHIELD)
-50 Kratos (God of War)

Luke is showered with love again while Rey is the red headed step child. Gaston, Mulan, and Ariel all have a strong showing for Disney. In fact, Moana and Mr. Incredible even sneak into the Wildcard making the top six Disney owned. Phil is a Disney character that doesn't do well. And we lose two mid-level video game characters.

...Had mudders vote counted, Moana would have switched places with Ariel. That's all here.

Group 4
48 Yoshi (Mario)
38 Wolverine (Marvel Comics)
34 Pikachu (Pokemon)
16 The Bride (Kill Bill)
-----
-10 Ganondorf (Zelda)
-16 The Doctor (Doctor Who) 1 Fav, 0 Boots
-----
-16 Green Arrow (DC Comics) 1 Fav, 1 Boot
-18 Neo (Matrix)
-20 Inigo Montoya (Princess Bride)
-56 Revan (Knights of the Old Republic)

Yoshi and Wolverine run away with the grouping. The Bride survives by a comfortable margin, which is very cool. Ganondorf sneaks into the Wildcard with the Doctor, who edges Arrow by one Boot vote. Revan doesn't have enough followers and Inigo and Neo see their runs stop pretty abruptly.

...had mudders vote counted there would have been a three way tie the cut line between Ganon, Inigo, and Green Arrow.

Round 1 Results Day 3
Group 5
80 Luigi (Mario)
34 Captain America (Marvel Comics)
22 Seto Kaiba (Yu-Gi-Oh)
6 Dug (Up)
----
-6 Hajime Saito (Rurouni Kenshin)
-8 Doctor Doom (Marvel Comics)
----
-22 Rocky Balboa (Rocky)
-22 Lilo (Lilo and Stitch)
-42 Elizabeth Swann (Pirates of the Carribbean)
-44 Kyle Broflowski (Southpark)

Kyle had something in common with Saul Goodman in the next group. He started out very strong, even leading the group, then got blown completely out. Unlike Saul, he finished dead last. Seto has an amazing performance here and I'm happy to see Hajime make it out of the round too. Luigi makes this competition look pathetic. While my favorite Marvel villain Doom takes a very comfortable spot in the Wildcard, almost 15 points ahead of the cut.

Group 6
30 James Bond (James Bond)
26 Kronk (The Emperor's New Groove)
26 Piccolo (Dragonball Z)
8 Saul Goodman (Breaking Bad) 6 Favs
----
8 Aragorn (Lord of the Rings) 1 Fav
-8 Maximillion Pegasus (Yu-Gi-Oh) 1 Fav
----
-8 Hercules (Hercules) 0 Favs
-18 Mike Wazowski (Monsters Inc.)
-24 Freiza (Dragonball Z)
-40 Sub-Zero (Mortal Kombat)

What Kyle lacked was a wonderful amount of +10's to balance the -10's. Saul got just that and made it by when he squeaked past Aragorn. Bond, Kronk, and Picollo all got healthy amounts of hate that held the scores in the low teens most of the day. Frieza and ice ninja monster both have terrible outings. Pegasus and Seto are doing great respectively right now, makes me wonder how Yu-Gi-Oh might have done. The Utility Man single handedly puts Pegasus into the Wildcard round and eliminates Hercules by giving Pegasus his only +10 of the day (Herc got none).

Round 1 Results Day 4
Group 7
54 Jack Sparrow (Pirates of the Caribbean)
46 Jamie Lannister (Game of Thrones)
42 Kermit the Frog (Muppets)
8 Lara Croft (Tomb Raider)
-------
-12 Charizard (Pokemon)
-14 Atticus Finch (To Kill and Mickingbird)
-------
-18 Hulk (Marvel Comics)
-32 Stan Marsh (Southpark)
-34 Jerry (Tom and Jerry)
-40 Thanos (Marvel Comics)

Based on last round, Sparrow was expected to do well and he delivered. Croft gets a lot of +2's and -2's. I -10'd Kermit, but that didn't do much at all, the frog has some serious staying power. Good for him! Charizard and Atticus make the Wildcard. Hulk and Stan are narrowly eliminated. South Park characters are getting weeded out.

Group 8
32 Sonic the Hedgehog (Sonic)
18 Toothless (How to Train Your Dragon)
16 Hector Barbossa (Pirates of the Caribbean)
14 Walter White (Breaking Bad)
------
8 Light Yagami (Death Note)
6 Vegeta (Dragonball Z) 3 Favs
------
6 Luna Lovegood (Harry Potter) 2 Favs
-18 The Grinch (How the Grinch Stole Christmas)
-36 Pocahontas (Pocahontas)
-46 Ludwig von Koopa (Super Mario Bros. 3)

The Grinch has a weird fate, finishing in the top Top 20 in the Prelims to be completely hated on this round. Vegeta finished in the Top 10 last round and BARELY squeezes out Luna, a good cult Potter character. Hector moves on. I still like him as the longest lasting user nom. Walter White lives to cook another day. Pocahontas and Ludwig are over matched and Sonic makes short work of the group.

Round 1 Results Day 5
Group 9
72 Genie (Aladdin)
62 Jean-Luc Picard (Star Trek)
10 Samurai Jack (Samurai Jack)
2 Taz (Looney Tunes)
------
-4 Ryu (Streetfighter)
-8 Andy Dufresne (The Shawshank Redemption)
------
-18 Hawkeye (Marvel Comics)
-26 Superman (DC Comics)
-30 Omar Little (The Wire)
-60 Chloe Price (Life is Strange)

Chloe has the worst performance yet by a character this round. Didn't have high hopes for Omar this round, but am surprised to see the elimination of Superman. Taz sneaks in to Round 2 after fighting through the Wildcard prelims last round. No Wildcard this round for him! Genie and Picard are obviously the cream fo the crop in this group.

Group 10
68 Bowser (Mario)
34 Cloud Strife (FFVII)
10 Link (Zelda)
-2 Willy Wonka (Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory)
------
-4 Curious George (Curious George)
-10 Sarah Connor (Terminator) 2 Favs
------
-10 Agent J (Men in Black) 1 Fav
-12 Bart Simpson (Simpsons)
-34 Sora (Kingdom Hearts)
-40 Green Lantern (DC Comics)

Boswer is still king. Cloud beats Link at something on Board 8! It's back to the Wildcards for George. Agent J gets minimally outlasted by Sarah Connor for a Wildcard spot. Willy moves to the next round as the first with a negative number. No huge surprises on the bottom of the group.

I'm sure I'll get to it eventually. It's just a matter of when. Lots of other stuff to buy.

Edgar is my new unsung hero. I'm going to start laying votes down for him. WWE is out of the competition now. I still think The Rock would have performed the best. I got a lot of entertainment out of hearing he "was considering" running for office as a libertarian. He'd totally bring the media coverage to that party, and they need that desperately. In fact, they should push all in on a celebrity next term. Can't believe Elsa is out already! Her movie was epic a few years ago.

Both ducks make it in the second group. Charlie Brown has a bad habit of making into wildcard rounds...known from years past...but he has an excellent knack of making it out of Wildcard rounds too. Wicked Witch, who was almost eliminated by my tally error sees her way into the Wildcard for a second straight time as well. Kefka needs more love and what happen to Beast? He just had a movie come out and he's a Disney legend!

Belle has always been the headliner for Beauty and the Beast IMO. Beast is cool but not as memorable as her or arguably even Gaston.
