Bowser is king in this group by a comfy margin. Miles started poorly, but picked up steam throughout. Homer Simpson has never done well in these contests, but makes the next round easily enough. Dang! I wanted Levi to make the Wildcards! So close! Geralt would have been awesome too, I just started getting into his comics. I don't know what is more surprising, Stitch falls to the Wildcard Round or Welkin actually making the Wildcard Round! I loved his game. Peter Griffin is a negative vote magnet. Yu-Gi-Oh gets its second character through (joining Seto). I also expected more form Legolas and Belle.

Board 8 could use some more Sunny in their lives. Fantastic show. Raylan falls short just like Boyd and Mags. Goodbye Justified (another show in my personal Top 10). I thought Caesar would do much better, but am glad to see Sam Beckett do ok. The Joker puts on one of the strongest performances yet. I must say I don't understand the love for Scorpion and Sub-Zero. Do they have any character development in some avenue I haven't seen? Or is it the undead kick butt ninja factor?

I expected Luke to finish on top and he did. Board 8's darling Pheonix has a great first showing as well as the only TMNT character, Leo. Kenshin sneak into the next round! Simba underperforms. I'm glad to see Vash and King Kong in the Wildcard Round at least. There's no real surprises on eliminations to me in this group, though I did +10 Wallace. :( Charlie Brown has an average performance after finishing tenth last contest.

Lightning has the 2nd worst performance this contest. Jeez O'Pete. I mean, I hate Cars, so whatever...but damn. The cut line was REALLY close, great competition all day long. Yoda stomps, even outdoing Batman. This is seeming more and more like Star Wars' year, but it is only the preliminaries. I thought Groot might do better than Starlord. Don't know why Rocket Racoon isn't in the competition either. :( Congratulations out to JC for fighting hard!

Terminator leads this very low scoring group. Hate was pretty evenly distributed all day long. Seems this could be the overall weakest group of the contest. That said, congrats to Elric (always nice to anime do well imo). Taz might be the best user nomination in the contest (though I really like Hector Barbossa and McGonagall noms as well). Atticus Finch always does a lot better than I assume he will. REALLY disappointed to lose Dude, but happy to see Butters (the second best character on the show) and Red Ranger do well.

Shout out to Dirty Harry for being the biggest snub this season! He was in such a tough grouping that his 40 couldn't even get him a Wildcard. Hellboy, Khan, Maximus, Punisher, and Carl all in a similar boat. Biggest surprise to me on this list would actually be Glenn and Walking Dead overall. I didn't expect half of the cast to wiped out in the prelims. My favorite characters on this list that would be Levi, Undertaker, Glenn, Archer, and Boyd is by far the best overall character on that list imo.

Whoever voted FitzChivalry in gets the nod for worst nom of the contest (no offense, just reading the numbers). Still floored that Cars didn't get any love. Madea is awful, Stiffler was good in the 90's, and Bluto is way outdated. I hate to see Charlie Kelly on this list, Sunny deserves more. Characters I didn't know before the contest started include Tattletale, Journeyer, Neopolitan, Feanor, and Kirisame. The most surprising on this list to me would be Lightning and Peter Griffin. Al, Nightshade, Rorschach, and Thornhill all benefit greatly from weak groupings. The 15 other characters who scored 15 points got eliminated. There were 20 characters who scored 20 that got eliminated too. Knope, Ezio, Stitch and Taz all have the best statistical shot of making it through the Wildcard Round. Just as a quick note, there are 75 Wildcard competitors and only 30 will make it to the next round.

This is somewhat true. I mostly -5ed people I didn't know, but if there was a character I didn't like or they were from something I didn't like I did put them in first.

I tried to always rate the characters I didn't know in the +-0 category. But there were a couple rounds where I had to down-vote one of them for space.

The way I see it I want characters I don't know to be eliminated early so I don't have to keep making arbitrary decisions concerning them. Choosing between 10 characters I know is closer to my actual feelings than choosing between three or four I know and several others I don't. In a perfect world every single character in the contest would be someone I know a decent amount about.

That's a reasonable perspective. I think my hang-up is that I would hate it if someone downvoted a character I really liked but that they didn't know, which probably happened to Danny Phantom and some others. But I can admit that it is just a personal hang-up.

Oh, I can totally relate to that, and I don't think it's unreasonable to feel that way. People like different things, and your Most Favoritiest Thing In The World might be completely unknown by someone else. It's just the way it goes. I was pretty saddened to see Freakazoid, Paul Atreides, Feanor, and even Strong Bad (was really surprised about this one) do badly, but that's just the way it goes sometimes.

People should still read Dune, though.

Ariel makes short work of this grouping. Pretty even group near the cut line, Wazowski winning the tiebreak to advance over Leon. Android 18 got a lot of love early and it lasted her throughout in the end. Knope got noped and we lose a noble nine member, Crono. Biggest surprise to me is how much Spongebob is not liked. Good cartoon, though pretty zany.

VERY tough group! Only Dumbo finishes in the negatives. Stan and Stitch take care of business and look to do well in Round 1. Love seeing the Dude make it as well. Durden rounds out the top 6, narrowly beating Flinstone and Rorschach. Travis, Welkin, and Guybrush are video game characters without enough notoriety. And what most consider the best TV show ever, Sopranos loses its lead Tony.

Wicked Witch takes advantage of almost being gypped and wins the group. Woohoo my favorite Disney character flies into the next round over Vash (another great character). Max gets stuck in rewind. Tidus and Yuri fall from graces. My favorite character in the line=up, GOB Bluth goes down, just as so many sitcom characters have before him already.

I don't understand the appeal with George at all, but then I didn't grow up with him and didn't learn of him until I was well outside the demographic.

George is probably my favourite character still in this contest so I'll try and give my reasoning.

I think George is a good character because he really does behave like an animal (or a child), in that most of what he does is spur of the moment and for it's own sake. A lot of the conflict in his stories comes from that even though he's essentially well-meaning too, which isn't something a lot of fiction gets right but it is true to life. Between those two things he's a believable character and a lot of his stuff is funny too. A good example of that is in one of the books, where he's in the hospital and he gets high on ether and then knocks himself out. I also like the story from the old show where The Man in the Yellow Hat is gone when he wakes up and he thinks that The Man is angry with him so he decides to leave home. There's a real sense of childish playfulness to that, and I think it helps that his stories move from one thing to the next without too much apparent structure. That's a bit like childhood too.

I bet a lot of the people who voted him up did it out of nostalgia though. To some extent I grew up with him too. I saw the old shorts in school and the new series started when I was still a kid.
