It all started at the end of last gen when Splinter Cell Blacklist bombed
Then Konami fired Kojima and killed off Metal Gear Solid to rebrand it into a multiplayer zombie game
Then Deus Ex Mankind Divided bombed and has been shelved so the developer can make Marvel games
Then Dishonored 2 bombed hard
Now Hitman's developer is being sold by Square-Enix which kills off the last one standing

RIP good stealth games

Yeah. I've only played through the first and a bit of the second one so still a fair way to go. I'm sure the challenges will keep me busy for a while too.

word. i've enjoyed it so far. i remember when the original game came out and my friends and i would spend hours talking about different strats to pull off the missions. the later ones kind of blew ass, but i actually enjoyed the episodic releases.

The new Hitman was amazing. Shame it bombed.

I'm sure Splinter Cell will be revived as a multiplayer open world game *sigh*

My only problem with it is the hints are too hand holdy but I feel some of the executions are way too obscure to figure out yourself without getting frustrated. I just play without the hints because there is no challenge at all with them.

The first one on PC? Yeah the Hong Kong missions were great.

47 had such janky voice acting in the first game too. He improved a lot as it went on. Amazing they kept him.

There's an in-between where you can get a hint but no waypoints. But yeah it can still be a bit obscure sometimes.

yep, still got the original box somewhere at my parents. back when pc games had packaging that was like 200x bigger than it needed, iirc.

but yeah, having to go through the restaurant, or snipe the triad (i think ) meeting, etc.

such an amazing game for its time

I don't think there is a lot of room on the market for these 12-20 hour long games with no multiplayer. You need to be able to advertise vast amounts of replay or people will spend their money elsewhere.

I fell in love with Hitman after playing a demo disc that came with a magazine. It had the Godfather rip-off mission where you are supposted to dump the gun in the bathroom. I spent so long messing around in that level. There was nothing else like it. There still isn't really. Hitman is such a creative and unique gem of a franchise. It's sad that it's overlooked so much.

Was the new Deus Ex actually bad? I own it but I haven't gotten around to finishing it, but the parts I've played seemed pretty fun.

Blacklist was pretty solid. Not as great as Chaos Theory but close.

I miss all the attention to detail that the older games had. But it's still overall a great stealth game.

Dishonored 2 is pretty good with the replay value. There are so many ways to get through that game.

I think a single player game that isn't open world or has multi is a hard sell sadly. Doesn't matter if the game is long or has loads of replay value.

The game itself is actually really damn good. It has the best level design of the series.

But the scope is much smaller. Most of it is in the one big hub (which while it is bigger you have access to most of it rather early in the game). The story is also smaller in scope and ends as it's starting to ramp up to the greater conspiracy.

I haven't played that one and I probably never will at this point. I've given up on all of the Tom Clancy games, since they've successively phased out everything that made them unique and interesting.

Well, the new survival horror genre is pretty much blending survival horror and stealth and those are still quite big. And no mention of Thief in this topic?

I disliked Conviction and have no interest in the multi focused Tom Clancy games of today. But Blacklist was still damn good.

You don't mean games like Outlast do you? Don't you have to spend a lot of that game running? I suppose Alien Isolation was like a stealth game but again I don't think that sold well lol. Thief bombed too didn't it?

Did it? That's a shame. Even though I don't follow stealth games much I've still heard it's quite the underrated series. I was just surprised nobody mentioned it ITT.

The latest Thief game had a bit of a mixed reception IIRC. I didn't bother with that one. It was a cross gen game I believe.

The originals are classics though yeah.
