You got it backwards, it's where JFK is saved by someone time travelling and it fucks everything up.

I only saw the dreamcatcher movie and it was so weird...

The beginning is kind of promising, but I remember it quickly getting very very over-stephen-kingish.

The movie is hysterically bad though

I'm so far getting big deja vu for Tommyknockers. Written while drugged up, about aliens, narrative jumps around the timeline, fails to really develop any characters enough to care about the horror going on.

But at least Tommyknockers seemed to have a lot of potential(I still feel if that book was a few hundred pages longer it could've been among his best), this just seems weak :/

My top 5 in no particular order so far:

IT
Needful Things
The Dark Tower(cheating, but they're best taken as a whole)
11/23/83
The Stand

But it's really hard to judge, there are some great ones vying for the top.

Bottom 5 is pretty hard too, but so far it's

The Dark Half
Gerald's Game
Tommyknockers
Bag of Bones
Cell

Though I'm sure if you asked me at a different time I'd either think of something else in Bag of Bones' place, or just plain feel differently.

That's pretty much how I felt about it. It's been a while since I read it, but I just remember once it got around to the only cool guy dying, and then the cops/military show up and everything just drags to a boring halt and then I don't even remember what else happens or how it ends other than some kind of psychic deus ex machina in there that was underwhelming. Beginning was neat though, all tense and full of wtf.

The gunslinger is significantly different from the rest of the series. It's a very common suggestion to read the first two before judging.

I liked Cell. I didn't realize it was hated.

Also liked Gerald's Game.

Dark Half, Tommyknockers, and Bag of Bones I don't really like though. I was surprised to see that Bag of Bones is apparently one of his best received books and it's what got him a better deal with a different publisher.

Yeah.

The Drawing of the Three is incredible. I don't think the quality dips from there until Song of Susannah, which is still good.

I don't remember if this is ever outright stated in the book, but King's idea for the book is somewhat interesting. He noticed that all the alien invasion movies he watched gave the aliens such a technological advantage that there was no realistic way we would beat them. So he wanted to write a story where the technology the aliens did have, they didn't understand, and they conquered planets in a slower, more organic way.
