People also watch sports for the more social aspects of it. People enjoy cheering for a team and feeling excitement over the unpredictability more than anything. I guess that's because I'm not actually that interested in the game itself but the spectacle of it all. Marching bands, cheerleaders, all that stuff the TV leaves out in favor of instant replays and live footage of old farts literally just telling you what just happened. And the commercial breaks, holy hell.
