Unbridled9 04/21/17 4:38:19 PM #1:	And it was... eh? Like, I didn't get the point of the remake. The designs were okay, I guess, but didn't really stick out to me as really 'interesting'. The various servants looked really off and bland (especially with the sheer volume of powdered wigs). I'm baffled by how many black people were in this considering that this seems to be about the 1800's or so following the War of the Oranges or something close. I'm pretty sure France wasn't that racially integrated. The costumes were okay. Belle's dress looked fine and pretty much everything else looked good. The Beast, however, was pretty bleh. I don't know if it was the costume or presentation but he felt less intimidating and more like an 1800's version of Team Jacob. The musical numbers were pretty good. However... Belle felt like a real freaking Mary Sue. She's the progressive-thinking woman who has the audacity to be able to READ! And she's trying out new ideas (like her attempt at a washing machine) along with being naturally beautiful. She's selfless of course, willing to sacrifice herself for her fathers safety, and she's able to reform the beast... And she doesn't really change throughout the entire movie. She felt really static and I was more interested in Gaston and the servants and seeing their various interactions. Heck, I'd say that they stole the show as I was much more invested in what Gaston and his followers would do to try and woo Belle as well as the servants and how they felt and acted about being unjustly transformed but, also, finally having a guest over for them to dote on. I really liked that they fleshed out the backstory a lot more, though I also felt that keeping at least the Beast's backstory kind of vague was a good thing. Also, was kind of disappointed in Gaston's death at the end. I know how it was in the original but I was kind of hoping for a bit more of him being bested by his own arrogance and the like (like having LeFou have a chance to save him but refuse'. So... Basically, I don't really see the point. Dislike unknowns. Like to know exactly what they are getting before they pay for it (which makes sense for a lot of things but in the case of things like movies it means the movie is completely spoiled before you even watch it). It's why movies these days keep regurgitating the same content with the same IPs with a new coat of paint rather than taking a risk with something original. It's just safer. --- 1. I had little interest in the two as animated movies or Beauty in the Beast. I don't like the look to the live action movies anyway.
