"About a third of 18- to 34-year-olds in the U.S. live at home, the Census Bureau reported on Wednesday. That includes college dormitories. Among 25- to 34-year-olds living at home, one in four is neither enrolled in school nor working. That's 2.2 million people, a small percentage of the nation's more than 70 million millennials but a striking figure nonetheless."

This sounds like more of a problem with the American education system if nothing else.

I certainly feel superior to able bodied people in their 20s who live with their parents and don't work or go to school. Aka freeloaders. Bad parenting is rampant in this country, it's the biggest problem we have and a root cause of why our country is fucked.

Yeah they're right technically. Where I'm from though, the northeast usa, "I still live at home" or "do you still live at home" is a common term and is synonymous with "i still live with my parents" and "do you live with your parents".

I don't care about that too much though that wasn't the point of me sharing this. I hope some of you basement dwellers can change your ways and start contributing to society.

That's what I'm saying. If you're in your mid 20's and you're living with your parents, if you're at least working/going to school you shouldn't feel bad. Its tough to afford a place on your own, and tough to find a reliable room mate. But doing nothing, jesus. That's why I say the parents are partly to blame. I'd send my kid to live on the street and I'm not kidding.

It's very easy to explain why. We have the lowest taxes for the rich in any nation, we accepted the idea that rich people are taxed less because they will create more jobs but they continually outsource jobs and hide money in out of country tax havens. The article says a 1/4 of these people earn disability income so they do help their parents that way. Many probablt qualify for food stamps and help out that way. Many probably gave up looking for work and instead just help cook, clean and look after family children.

just sick of these fake ass 'im so independent' people when literally their parents are paying for their rent and shit. like wtf.

this $250k 'help' from her parents was probably just them paying for it in full and her just paying them back in her own time or deducting it from her inheritance if she is "late on her payments"

Personally im 32, have a family of 6 to support and live on my own (well with wife and kids) but I can see why so many people are living at home with their parents. Ive literally worked like a slave at 100+ hours a week (I use to be a roofer and put in 16 hour days 7 days a week 4 months out the year while the weather was good). Money was good for me but I always had just enough to pay off the bills with some extra to take the family out to dinner whenever we wanted. Nothing more nothing less.

The expense of living day to day is astronomical compared to what it once was. Not to mention jobs arent paying much different yet its more than 4x as expensive to live as it was 25-30 years ago. Jobs arent really there and most dont make enough to actually survive on your own.

People need to realize that the millennials have been fucked over by baby boomers. All degrees could get you a job. A minimum wage job supported the family. Nothing was expensive. Housing was cheap. No student loan issue. Everything was great.

And then they fucked us over and blame us for not dealing with their greed. Depression is on the rise as result of this and shit parenting.

ikr. Boomers be rubbing their hands gleefully and be like:

let's shame millenials who still live at home in their 20s. why not buy or rent out one of our properties ey millenial? you don't want to be considered a loser do you?

yes millenial, get that mortgage to buy my $400k spare property which I bought in the 70s-90s with my job that didn't even require a that degree weve been pushing you to get while I was the single earner of the family.

what's that, you want training for that job? you gotta get them student loans for college millenial, it's the only way to get a good job. why should we pay for your training millenial? oh you got that college degree now? so did 250 of these other applicants millenial. now who is willing to work for the cheapest and have the most work stacked on them? why should I pay you millenial when I can pay someone in India and China to do it for cheaper?

what's that millenial? you don't have a job, you are living at home? we weren't as lazy as you when we were your age millenial. hang on let us post articles about these millenials who still live in their parents homes

Blame Baby Boomers and greedy %1 making it so all the millenials can't find jobs and start making money to move out like all their parents and grandparents.

I have seen tons of 20 somethings living with their parents, with a college degree working "in a trial test period" for like 3-4 years and getting paid almost minimum wage so they can't afford like anything.

I dunno who is to blame but if smart people with degrees can't even work to make good money and move from their parents then the whole system messed up in the last decades.
