Bowling explained the video was taken during an outdoor education class that educates students on survival, shelter and fire building, as well as the harvesting and processing different breeds of animals.

I got ISS for three days in high school for my phone going off in class. I didn't even pick it up, and it was on vibrate. But apparently that was enough to throw me in with doods who got caught smoking weed and picking fights. smfh

i dont see the problem.

The problem is if you can find a metal pole to beat a furry creature to death on you might not be in the wilderness anymore.

As someone who spent 18 years in Texas schools, yes they are very fucked up.

It absolutely is. I absent failed a class by one day because I was in ISS and nearly failed another because I couldn't take a test. You're at school but you're not here, so fuck your academics.

how is it not realistic? its getting the kids used to and teaching them how to kill a rabbit with blunt force trauma. its really not that hard to figure out how to smash a rabbits head against something hard thats not a pole when one isnt around.

i dont see the problem.

You really don't need to have a child bludgeon an animal to death to demonstrate the importance of surviving in the wilderness.

they learn to survive in nature but i doubt it is the right age to teach in that way.

Then fucking teach them wilderness survival skills.

You caught an an animal. Now I will show you how to break it's neck. No beating and no bruised meat. One clean snap.

Plain and simple.

This was part of an outdoor survival class wherein kids are taught to build shelter and fire

The entire exercise is unrealistic as humans cannot outrun and catch wild rabbits

I get the strong sense that the true purpose of the exercise was more to stir a fire in the teacher's loins than to teach the kids useful skills

Yeah but you'd be home

ISS retains the worst part of school without any of the benefits

If it's not that hard then why do they have to show them instead of just telling them?

Not necessary for school kids to learn. Survivalist classes should be elective later in life if you so choose.

And furthermore, you catch the rabbit with a trap like a snare, and then break its neck. You don't wail on it like a caveman after someone strings it up for you. There is no brute force or blunt trauma involved.
