The whole backstory he created for it is perfect and it fits... I mean I don't know if he just made up the Court of Owls but I think he did, yet it fits perfectly in the Batman mythology. And I love how it wasn't just a 4 or 6 issue story and moved on to the next adventure. This thing has gone on for 11 issues + an annual, and of course became an event across all Bat books.... Except Batwoman...
I'm just so impressed with it. They do the big end of issue surprises and now flesh it out with the backup story. I can't wait to read #11. When this thing is collected in full as a hardcover, it's a definite buy.
It's not even the best Snyder run! Also it covers a lot of themes that were already done (better, imo) in Morrison's run. Capullo art is very good, I'll give you that.

Did the Court exist before this run? I mean the rhyme that they reference, was it ever said before?

It's completely new. And while I liked Snyder's Detective Comics Batman more, this has been excellent. Really, REALLY looking forward to him introducing the Joker in October. DTEC #1 doesn't count <_<
The closest thing I remember to the court is the Black Glove Society, similar principle, just without the assassins, Anri or LtM could probably give you more info though.
