Questions: Do the coins ever expire, how often are new items added, and what do I gain by hitting Platinum?

Wondering if I should just leave it like this, spend them, and give the codes I haven't used yet (along with my bonus Pokemon ones, I own two of each version) to my brother so he can get something too, or if I should just shoot for Platinum.

coins expire after 2 years
new items are added every 2-3 months or so
you gain the year platinum reward which is announced in July and shipped out in November/December. Last year's was a Mario 25 button pin set for the 25th anniversary. The year before that was a statue with all the mario characters on it, the year before that a choice of a mario hat or the special Punch-Out! WiiWare game were you fought Doc Louis. Don't know what this years is yet

You don't lose gold/platinum if you spend points, AFAIK.

600 points will earn you platinum status and it won't go away until the year ends (which is next week). It doesn't cost any points to be platinum status or anything like thast

Just did this myself because of this topic, and I'm up to 610 points myself. I have a bunch more codes, but I'm already at Platinum, and there's not anything in the store right now that I'd really like to have. So I should just wait and register the rest in a week when the year turns over so I can make sure I hit Platinum, right?
