Bulbasaur and Charmander. I was in sixth grade and my mother promised to get me Red or Blue if I made the A/B Honor Roll and both games if I received all A's. Needless to say she never made an expensive offer like that again and I never made all A's again until college.
Good story.

Technically Bulbasaur but actually Charmander.

I started it up, Picked Bulba because of what it said in the instructuon book, and right when I pressed the button to confirm I was selecting him I heard a skeeeeeeeeeePOP! sound...


Turns out the battery exploded in my Game Boy. So I had someone help me clean it out but obviously I hadn't saved my selection so when it came time to pick again, I was like **** THAT I'M NOT TAKING BULBASAUR AGAIN

So I took Charmander
