Group 3, Round 23
Swift Award (First saved) Zoroark Iron Man Award (Last Saved) Forretress Fainted Granbull (II) Despite appearing fierce-looking they are actually very timid, loyal and playful. The jaws are so heavy that the Pokémon have trouble keeping their heads up. Unless Granbull is startled, it will try not to bite indiscriminately. If attacked, Granbull will flail about to fend off its attacker. Solrock (III) Without its Ability, this Pokémon and its counterpart Lunatone are the only Pokémon that have seven weaknesses and are not partially Grass type or have a 4x weakness or 1/4 resistance to anything. Other Pokémon that have seven weaknesses include Celebi, Exeggcute, Exeggutor, Snover and Abomasnow. Wailmer (III) Wailmer and Onix are the only Pokémon which evolve into a Pokémon with a large overworld sprite in Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. Wailmer is the only one of the two, however, that can evolve without being returned to its Poké Ball, as Onix must be traded to evolve. Genesect (V) Despite its Pokédex entries stating that it is a resurrected prehistoric Pokémon, it is not Rock-type like fossil Pokémon that can be resurrected by the player, though this could be due to the modifications made to it by Team Plasma. Genesect is the only Bug-type legendary Pokémon. Genesect can learn Fly, despite having no visible wings or known method of flight. It is one of only two Bug-type Pokémon that can learn Fly. The other is Volcarona. -- It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Group 4, Round 24
Swift Award (First saved) Magcargo Iron Man Award (Last Saved) Relicanth Fainted Kakuna (I) The "arms" on Kakuna seen in its Red and Blue sprite are commonly mistaken to be a sprite error, as they are rarely shown in any other media. They have so far only been shown on its Red and Blue sprite and a Pocket Monsters Bandai card. Slugma (II) Slugma is based on a slug with a body of lava. It may also be based on the Cherufe, evil creatures of rock and magma that inhabit the magma pools found deep within Chilean volcanoes. Slugma's Shiny form may be based on cooled, hardened magma, which becomes a dark, metallic color. The form may also be based on solder, a liquid metal that is extremely hot and hardens when it cools, similarly to lava. Unown (II) Unown apparently generate a radio signal where they are found in large numbers, which can be listened to by any Trainer with a Pokégear. If the player listens closely, the radio signal plays the melody of the Azure Flute. If a player does not have Unown's Pokédex data on a Generation II game when in Oak's lab in Pokémon Stadium 2, Unown's Pokédex number is listed as 252 instead of 201. This happens regardless of which Pokédex display mode is selected. Anorith (III) Anorith, its evolution Armaldo, Azurill and Castform are the only non-Water-type Pokémon which learn Water Gun by leveling up. Of these four, only Anorith and Armaldo cannot become the Water-type. Azurill becomes a Water-type upon evolution, and Castform becomes Water-type in the rain. -- It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum. ... Copied to Clipboard!

Group 1, Round 25
Swift Award (First saved) Vaporeon Iron Man Award (Last Saved) Vanilluxe Fainted Clefable (I) The prototype name for Clefable was "Ariala". Despite it possessing the required anatomy, Clefable is not part Flying-type, nor can it learn a single move that involves its wings. Clefable weighs the same as Ethan. It shares this trait with Latias and Gurdurr. Omastar (I) Omastar is the only Fossil Pokémon that has been given a reason for extinction; its shell was too heavy for it to move, thus it starved to extinction. This may also be a reference to the giant orthocone, ancestor to the modern octopus. The orthocone resembled an octopus but it had a long pointed shell that was slow and cumbersome. Regirock (III) Regirock is based on the golems of Hebrew legend. The legends cast them as servants of higher powers and are said to have writing on their heads. When the writing is removed, the creature would be weakened. The legendary golems' typing could have been a reference to the three major ages in history, with Regirock being Stone Age. Sawk (V) Sawk is based on Mas Oyama, a well-known Karate expert and the creator of Kyokushinkai Karate. He is also based on an Oni. According to interviews with Ken Sugimori in Nintendo Dream, in development, Sawk and Throh both had horns, making them look more like Oni. However, they were replaced with eyebrows so as not to clash with Tornadus and Thundurus, who both were originally designed to be red and blue, like Throh and Sawk. -- It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum. ... Group 2, Round 26
Swift Award (First saved) Lapras Iron Man Award (Last Saved) Registeel Fainted Graveler (I) Graveler's Red and Blue Versions sprite shows an incorrect number of limbs; only four are visible. This was corrected in Pokémon Yellow, however, as were many other incorrect sprites such as Koffing's. Mato's rendition of the Pokémon also depicts Yellow's Graveler with four limbs, possibly for this reason. All other Graveler that have since appeared in Pokémon Adventures have shown the right amount. Dunsparce (II) Dunsparce is based on the mythical tsuchinoko. Similar to Bigfoot or the Chupacabra, sightings and reports appear in Japanese media; however, hard evidence is always lacking. Tsuchinoko are 30 cm to 80 cm long, with a large head and poisonous fangs. Its body is thicker than its head and tail. The noises it makes resemble squeaks, chirps and snores. Unlike real snakes, which slither from side to side, a tsuchinoko wiggles ahead in a straight line. The tsuchinoko curls its body to leap through the air. Moreover, the fact that Dunsparce, a snake-like creature, has wings also brings to mind the motif of the Feathered Serpent, a prominent deity or supernatural being in many Mesoamerican religions. In addition, Dunsparce shares some traits with bumblebees, including their stripes, tiny wings, stinger-like tail, and the fact that they burrow into the ground. Cryogonal (V) Cryogonal has the highest Special Defense of all non-legendary Ice-type Pokémon. Cryogonal is the only genderless Pokémon, other than Mew, that can learn Attract. It is unknown why this is the case, given that Attract fails when used by or on a genderless Pokémon. Eelektrik (V) Eelektrik is the only Pokémon that evolves when exposed to a Thunderstone that was not introduced in Generation I. Eelektrik and its evolutionary relatives are the only Pokémon, aside from Ghost/Dark types, to have no weaknesses. However, this is due to their ability, Levitate, which eliminates their sole weakness to the Ground type, and not because of type matchups. -- It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum. ... Group 3, Round 27
Swift Award (First saved) Accelgor Iron Man Award (Last Saved) Combee Fainted Snorunt (III) Snorunt is based on a "Yukinko", a Japanese sprite said to emerge when it snows, according to folk tales, as well as the zashiki warashi, a spiritual creature found in the folklore of Iwate Prefecture. It also seems to be a stylized version of a person wearing a yuki mino, a traditional Japanese winter costume worn long ago by many people in the snowy parts of Japan consisting of a conical snow-cloak made of straw. Generally, Yukinko are depicted as small elf-like creatures wearing yuki mino. Purugly (IV) Despite what its bulky appearance would suggest, its highest stat is Speed at 112, and its HP and defenses are rather poor. Despite many Pokédex entries stating that it wraps its tail around its body to appear bigger, in For The Love Of Meowth the tail is shown to act like a corset. Tornadus (V) In Incarnate Forme, Tornadus is based on Fujin, the kami of wind. It may also have drawn inspiration from genies. In Therian Forme, Tornadus seems to be based on a bird of prey, most likely an eagle, vulture or other large avian species. It may also draw inspiration from the Vermilion Bird of the Chinese Four Symbols constellation, or from Huitzilopochtli, a god from the Aztec mythology that resembles a hummingbird. Tornadus is the only pure Flying-type Pokémon. However, other Pokémon are able to temporarily become pure Flying types through their Abilities or moves, such as Kecleon and Arceus. Tornadus is the last single-type Pokémon in National Pokédex order. When Tornadus appears on Route 7, Thundurus's cry is heard. Tympole (V) Tympole's face has become a phenomenon on the popular Japanese online artist community Pixiv. Tympole appears to be a combination of a toad tadpole and a loudspeaker. Tympole's spherical "speakers" were probably inspired by toads' "warts" and poison glands. Its eyebrows resemble musical notes, specifically the quarter note, and the bumps on the side of its head are similar to headphones. -- It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum. ... Group 4, Round 28
Swift Award (First saved) Zorua Iron Man Award (Last Saved) Electrode Fainted Grimer (I) Grimer and Gastly are the only Pokémon who don't change weight during evolution. In all of its Pokédex entries, it says how gross or dirty Grimer is. It shares this quality with Magikarp, whose Pokédex entries all tell how weak it is. Mankey (I) Mankey are very aggressive and short-tempered. Anyone that gets on its bad side (which is easily done), will receive a severe thrashing. When Mankey starts shaking and its nasal breathing turns rough, it is a sure sign that it is becoming angry. However, because it goes into a towering rage almost instantly, it is impossible for anyone to flee its wrath. Mankey lives in treetop colonies, and if one becomes enraged, the whole colony rampages for no reason. If Mankey loses sight of its colony, it becomes infuriated by its loneliness. Voltorb (I) Though it is said that Voltorb are often mistaken for Poké Balls, Voltorb is over one foot in height, far larger than any modern Poké Ball. Stunfisk (V) Stunfisk have electrical powers, which they use to zap their prey. They also have very tough skin that keeps them unharmed if stepped on, even by sumo wrestlers or Godzilla. They are also capable of leaping into the air and flapping their fins like wings to remain airborne. -- It's time to kick ass and chew bubble gum, and I'm all out of gum. ... Copied to Clipboard!
