Late to the party, but I'm really digging Valtari. Reminds me of Explosions in the Sky a bit, less Jonsi, more ambient/instrumental. I think it's a definite improvement over Med Sud but I fully acknowledge it may not be everyone's cup of tea.

Dear giggs,
I am a man of hyperbole. I am known to exaggerate. But there is one thing I've never done and that is compare anyone to young Nasir jones. Well that time has come because holy crap I have given up on rap lately because the more music I make, the more I dislike and don't respect many rappers in the game right now. I've listened to this kid all day and i haven't been this excited since i heard jay electronica the first time. -- Realo won gold at the Sex Olympics with a BROKEN FRIGGIN NECK.-Voltch ... having listened to it once i can make a highly informed opinion on it
it didn't excite me the way past krit albums, and at first glance there's more bravado and casual misogyny than i'm used to/comfortable with in a krit album (i could be reading that last one wrong, i'd need to take a closer look at the lyrics), but it's still alright. great beats. on the other hand, this new liars album is fantastic. right up there with drum's not dead. -- ICON: When there's nothing left to burn, you have to set Bidoof on fire. ... Question for anybody who cares to answer ... go through each letter of the alphabet and tell me which artist for each letter has had the best album thus far in 2012?
For instance, Anais Mitchell's "Young Man In America" is my favorite for A. "Coyote" by Bravo Utah is my favorite for B. Etc etc. I'm doing some posts (well myself and my staff are doing some posts) and we've got some gaps. Most notably at H, though we haven't went far beyond that anyway. We've got A-G set right now, though those could certainly change if I see something awesome. Also interested in C artists too, I guess. I was struggling to pick between two albums I thought were just "OK" (Cranberries, Carolina Chocolate Drops), but found an album that really did it for me (Craig Finn's "Clear Heart, Full Eyes"). EDIT: I'm asking here because, aside from the odd weird obsession, ya'll generally like some good stuff and I've been somewhat removed from music. Oddly enough, it's because I've been so focused on rebuilding my headphone collection (buying more just about every day), and not necessarily finding new music. The plus side is I could always recommend some headphones for ya'll. Let me have it. -- Digi White boards are remarkable. ... Copied to Clipboard!

I'll take Digi's challenge
Actress - R.I.P - I think it's overrated, but Alcest sucked and I haven't heard Ab-sol yet Brad Mehldau - Ode - Album of the year so far from a jazz master, over Beach House :/ Charles Gayle Trio - Streets - Off the deep end, recalls "Out To Lunch!" Drudkh - Eternal Turn Of The Wheel - Solid black/doomish metal El-P - Cancer For The Cure - His lyrics are even wackier than mine! The Flashbulb - Opus At The End Of Everything - Overlong, good moments, unconvinced Gravenhurst - The Ghost In Daylight - You might actually enjoy this one, Digi Hooverphonic - Hooverphonic with Orchestra - Idk it's all I heard of h's this year Islet - Illuminated People - Kickin ass is happenin here John Talabot - Fin - I'll take this over the Actress album and Burial EP combined Killer Mike - R.A.P. Music- This is what El-P does best Lee Fields and the Expressions - Faithful Man - Not sold on WIXIW quite yet, but I dig it The Men - Open Your Heart - Could wear out its welcome quickly but its fun Napalm Death - Utilitarian - If you're into grindcore...nobody is, I know Of Montreal - Paralytic Stalks - The first masterpiece he's made, from my perspective Portico Quartet - Portico Quartet - It's like a jazzy Burial album. Great year for jazz. Quakers - Quakers - Good year for rap as well Robert Glasper - Black Radio - Nice and relaxing, not much more Shearwater - Animal Joy - Finally surpasses Rook and Palo Santo. Great rock album Torche - Harmonicraft - I just don't like Tallest Man on Earth Ulver - Childhood's End - A bunch of obscure 60's covers, actually kinda strange Victory Rose - Valtari - I speak american I'm from america The Walkmen - Open Your Heart - Honestly I find it somewhat boring though Xiu Xiu - Always - It's a little fruity though :p Yeti Lane - The Echo Show - Check out the video for Analog Wheel! Zulu Winter - Language - Nothing that hasn't been indied out better before -- http://www.wellhappypeaceful.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/11/nuclear_disaster.jpg ... Copied to Clipboard!

Oh really Icon I guess you can just possess a lack of something now! I will admit that some of the vocals are cheesy but those weren't the songs I was attracted to. I see them all as electronic artists trying to be forward thinking with what they have, Talabot probably starting with a bit crappier gear.

burial isn't forward-thinking or progressive at all. that's never been his thing. sure, he popularized pitchshifted vocals in uk bass music, but he's a nostalgia act. a very good one. he mines edm scenes (rave, jungle) in decay and tries to bring out the optimism those collective scenes had at their height.
actress, i dunno. i feel it's more reactionary than progressive. his contemporaries are fully absorbed in bass and synths and hedonism so what does he do? make a personal ambient record. i like that talabot record, though. i'm a bit harsh on it but it's a fine pop record, outside of the cheesy moments. i just think it's weird to compare it to burial or actress. -- ICON: When there's nothing left to burn, you have to set Bidoof on fire. ... three posts in a row c'mon guys
http://soundcloud.com/frank-ocean/pyramids first frank ocean song off the new record. It's 10 mins long, bold choice. I'm listening to it now and posting my thoughts: -The first 2 minutes just sound like a really good (really, really good) alternative R&B song, I wonder how he's gonna make this 10 mins. -Sudden change around 4:30, seems like this is basically 2 or 3 songs in one track (weeknd style I guess you could say, but the guy doesn't have a patent on making two tracks in one in R&B). That's okay, more for me to listen to! -After reading about it on OFT, I should expect a John Mayer guitar solo at the end. I'm not sure I'm all for that, but 8 minutes in this is still really good so it doesn't matter too much. -Okay that solo actually really fit, if it was a solo at all, didn't overwhelm it or anything. Just a cool outro thing. So yeah overall a really good and ambitious song. If you're the least bit interested in Frank Ocean, definitely worth checking out! -- http://img.imgcake.com/nio/75vinpngqu.png ... Copied to Clipboard!
