Early NC imo is annoying because he keeps doing that thing where he'll say something and he'll have a character from the movie "respond" to what he just said with a short clip. That stuff isn't really funny, luckily he phased that out.
I actually don't know why I didn't mention that because that stuck out to me rewatching the Drug Cartoon special, and then I remembered that he used to do it all the time. You're right, it is a bit annoying - the only time I've ever really seen that pulled off well is in Plinkett reviews, where it can actually be pretty funny because he doesn't "force" it like the Nostalgia Critic used to for a cheap gag.
