Mistere_Man posted... Honestly he didnt have a lot of chances to be. I mean up until Raditz he was doing fine, but then other things kept getting in the way.

first he gave his life to save his son from Raditz, but then had to train with a kai to save the earth from vegeta. Then was badly hurt doing that so Gohan had to go get new dragon balls to revive others, but once he was better he rushed to help his son, and had to fight Frieza, and stalled Frieza long enough for them to get away. This got him stuck on an exploding planet, but he found away off only to end up on a planet of telporters so he took the opportunity to learn such a useful skill, and master his new ssj powers. Once he came back he found out about the androids so he and piccolo trained Gohan together, then Cell happened and they spent a few months training even more together, then he died again.
So other than yardrat or however it is spelled and after a Cell he spent a bunch of time with his son, and gave his life multiple times for them.
Maybe not the greatest dad, but honestly I can think of worse.

spared Vegeta and initially tried to spare Freeza.
