Combine that with the staff's inability to properly moderate politics related messages properly and you reach the conclusion that it's for the best to just get rid of political discussion overall on this site. If it's going to to continue to be handled poorly (always was and always will be), it's just best not to even have it and deal with the issues surrounding.
