I imagine that that means that there may be a similar number of female serial killers, they just hide it better and are overlooked more than men are.

There are very likely just as many female psychopaths as male. But psychopaths are not wannabe serial killers.

Serial killers don't go around murdering because they are lack empathy and a moral code, they do it because the act of killing brings them sexual release. This seems much more rare in women than men.
