The radical fringes of what we consider the 2D political spectrum actually gain more in common with each other the farther away from the "center" they move, even though they're supposedly moving in opposite directions. Someone who is close to radicalization is fertile ground for fanaticism, and once you push them past the margin, it becomes difficult to pull out of the rabbit hole, no matter how you enter it.
