I imagine that that means that there may be a similar number of female serial killers, they just hide it better and are overlooked more than men are.

It wouldnt surprise me. Theres also an underlying assumption that women arent like that by nature, which has probably aided in some flying under the radar. In recent years theres certainly been a bit of a shift away from the assumption that women dont sexually abuse children which follows a similar thought process.
