The Soviets were so legendary cruel that even modern day dsytopian fiction is still based on them. The complete removal of rights, enormous death counts, torture, rape, starvation, secret police, kidnappings.

The best you can say is they reach the dizzing heights of "Arguably not being as bad as literal Nazis" and you can make a serious argument that this is due to circumstance not philosphy. Really as complex as human beings and governments can be, Stalin, Nazis and North Korea are pretty much as unambigiously bad as anything in modern history.

It's a strange take, you're going to get a confused or hostile reaction from anyone who has studied any 20th century history.
