Say we identify an existential threat to all life on Earth, but the threat will not come to impact us for centuries. But we currently have no solution to avoid Doom. Would everyone both, cooperate, and also simply commit to the work of solving it? Even if it means the work will take generations to pay off?

Or would people just say "who cares what happens hundreds of years from now? The people then can figure it out" and every generation would keep putting off the work until it is too late?

Are we capable of solving an issue that won't impact anyone alive right now?

So, you mean like how it is with climate change right now?
