Those are two nearly entirely different sets of people.

You sure? Because any time (on any PC building forum) i've said "This is my budget, what do you think about this build" the majority of responses are variations of "you should wait 3 months for X part to come out" or "swap Y part out for Z part, it's $100 more but so much more worth it".

I think enthusiasts in general (in any hobby) can have a pretty skewed perception about what is a reasonable amount of money/time/effort to spend. Which is maybe why some gamers have a hard time understanding why there are people who prefer console gaming or who don't see the value in spending hundreds of dollars more for a difference in fidelity/experience that could be considered marginal.

I know I bored the pants off my girlfriend when upgrading her TV to something 4k, and her only comment was "It's too big but I guess I can see it's a bit sharper?"
