Topic | Video game prices have gotten stupid |
andri_g 03/20/24 5:04:36 PM #68: | Phantasy Star IV (GEN/MD) was $100 USD when it first released. That was 30 years ago.
A physical copy of Pier Solar (2010 for GEN/MD) direct from the developer was $50. After the studio had to restructure a few years ago, the price was $140 (Standard Edition) to $170 (Limited Edition). . The real price needed for a studio and its publisher to recover the costs of a complete AAA release--one shot, no DLC--can easily be $80 adjusted for inflation. Higher release prices might mean having to do what many gamers had to do in the 1990s: Being more careful over which games you choose to buy. It's also why renting games became such a popular option then, especially after Nintendo's attempts to make rentals of their games illegal failed. [ I'm not saying that I like higher release prices, but any other option available is not sustainable. ] --- '~' ... Copied to Clipboard! |
