Yup.

Replaced Yeltsin when he stepped down, then "won" two terms (Albeit Russian elections back then were allowed to be competitive compared to now, but I digress it was still fishy with the apartment bombings).

Medvedev replaced him, originally positioned himself as west friendly, then did a 180 and changed the constitution so Putin could regain power. Then Putin's inner circle convinced him to become way more conservative than he was during his first two terms, and now you have the monster we have today.

I miss "Liberal" Putin. Sure he was still an autocrat, but I can't help but wonder what happened to the Putin who used to crack jokes with Obama at world leader gatherings.
