Interestingly enough, there was a video a couple years ago where Yoshinori Kitase retracts his statement on the Rinoa/Ultimecia fan theory being debunked. Basically he said other people involved in writing the plot (not him) may/could have had such intentions in their own writing.

The theory adds depth to Ultimecia's character that she sorely needs, so that'd another perk to it.
