I absolutely agree with the idea that are personal and private information absolutely needs to have stronger protections so it can not be used in dubious ways. It's bad that the internet has largely turned into a vehicle to harvest our information.

What the TikTok ban has failed to demonstrate is how TikTok is doing this demonstratively worse than Facebook, Google, Twitter, etc. Beyond the fact that it's Chinese-owned. If they were really concerned about our user information, they would have passed a law protecting that, not just banning a platform they didn't like.

Tiktok literally injects key logging code into your browser whenever you visit a link through the app. I keep bringing this up and people keep ignoring it. I'm hoping it's not because tiktok investigated itself and determined that they totally only use that code for debugging.

Krause's research looked at more than just TikTok. In total, he tested seven iPhone apps that use in-app browsers, including TikTok, Facebook, Facebook Messenger, Instagram, Snapchat, Amazon and Robinhood. Of those, TikTok is the only one that appears to monitor keystrokes, Krause said. Krause didn't test the Android version of TikTok's app.
