Betting becoming mainstream is new in the US and people are really naive to think noone would think to temper with stuff, especially stuff that's irrelevant to the sport like spread on points difference during regular season games noone cares about.

Eventually it evens out as teams benefit from refereeing sometimes.

It is possible they dont know this stuff. For example I personally dont care about sports betting and there are a lot of terms and methodology I dont even understand, let alone the actual numbers. Maybe the refs are also thinking if I look too closely at this stuff Im going to lose my job and block it out

But they should be investigated, no reason not to. Some refs absolutely could be gambling and thats the only way to know
