SiO has the right of it. The U.S. gun culture brought about by NRA propaganda & lobbying trying to mitigate the harm guns bring society and treat them like tools/toys has led to an attitude among many irresponsible people where they view them as "problem solvers" for something nobody should be getting shot over.

The problem is you normally don't know who those people are until they show you through an example.

True, but the GOP spending decades convincing its members that every single negative racial stereotype -- like in that video -- is true certainly doesn't help.
