That's... not how it works.

Mice and rats are two completely different species, with different mannerisms. Rats are much bigger, and can even eat mice if they want to. Rats are also much more cautious, and thus many rat traps will take a while to catch them because they will avoid anything new that they find on their usual route (whereas mice are much more curious and will likely be caught in the trap quickly).
