So you want minimum wage level service when you go out to eat? I sure don't. those servers aren't nice to you because they want to be.

Thats not an issue in any other country. If you dont want to do the work well in any job, you tend to end up leaving, either because you want to or because your boss wants you to.

I'm sure someone working 50+ hours a week and only just getting by has time to attend college or university at the time. I'm also sure the system doesn't intentionally keep people stuck in that situation by design.

From your earlier posts in another thread, it sounds like you're middle class and pretty well off, so it makes sense you look down on those at the bottom and think "well they should just work harder or get educated in a different field."

Im well off now, but I grew up very disadvantaged and its taken me a long time to get to a point of being comfortable. I dont look down on people in service jobs; Ive worked in several myself.

Youre right that the system isnt fair. However, neither is your argument. I claimed that they should be earning a living wage by default. You then come back and tell me theyre working a 50 hour week. If theyre earning a living wage, thats not necessary. And yes, it is possible to train and study while working full time. It can be hard, I dont dispute that. But its not like Im suggesting something I wouldnt be willing to do. I have had full time jobs while undergoing all of my training and qualifications from the age of 16. I had two full time jobs when I was getting my A levels and it was grim. I wouldnt wish that on anybody.

However, Im also a realist. If your skill set is one that makes you easily replaceable, youre never going to command a competitive wage. That doesnt mean that I dont believe in everybody getting a fair and liveable wage.
