I think for the same reason Uncharted got a lot of praise: accessible gameplay with writing that was good "for a game" and made the whole thing feel cinematic. I also tend to think that the timing of it helped it a lot. Character driven zombie stuff was huge in the public consciousness. This, plus the graphics was a cut above from other games at the time. IMO it was a product of its time, but it did play a huge part in popularizing cinematic games. I know some people hate them, but I enjoy them and it does make other people watching my playthrough a great experience because they can get invested in the story as well. My wife gets bored watching me play games like Valorant or DBD, but she loves it when I play games like GoW:R or the Telltale Walking Dead games. --- DI MOLTO! ... Copied to Clipboard! |
