Id rather find a balance where i can provide my kid a memorable (but realistic to my income) upbringing while safeguarding both my own and their future.

Ive been able to provide my son with things i only wish i had as a kid, but not at the sacrifice of saving for his education or my own retirement.

A balance is best.

But for people too far in that savings/investments mindset, someone once explained to me, if he raises his kids right, he won't need to invest for their future, they will take care of themselves. If he doesn't raise his kids right, then they'd waste all his money. I know theirs obvious flaws in that kind of dichotomous thinking but the idea is accurate that more important than money is how you raise your kids. And that doesn't necessarily mean give them everything and spoil them. The opposite actually, hardship is what makes you stronger. Now when it comes to college savings, Im absolutely on the side of paying for your kids college because thats just ridiculous nowadays.
