I was thinking along the lines of the people who don't know the true story about it. They don't know all about the squid and in the case of another attack, there's the idea humanity could potentially stop it. Everyone knows how powerful DM is and how he's like a god, so how could humanity unite to stop him if he decided to attack again like they could with the "alien"?

Like I said, it's a minor issue and the movie ending didn't bother me really.
