Study Tip: If your job requires you to take an exam, purchase the exam guide and study everything that is above your pay grade.

I had to take the Pharmacy Technician Certification Board exam for my job today. I had been told that most of the questions would be things that a pharmacy technician would know form having worked the job and that there would be a few curveballs. Out of a possible 5000 questions, 90 are randomly selected to establish competency in the field. Well, if the "randomly selected" questions had tiers to them, I guarantee that I received the hardest. I couldn't have passed that exam if I had a month off to do nothing but study. Even if I had purchased the study guide, I would have never dreamt that half of these questions could have been remotely relevant to the job at hand. I could have done better had I been taking an air traffic controller's exam instead.

I wish I had burnt the money instead. At least then it wouldn't be in the bank account of some corporate thief. Now I have two weeks to decide between dropping $225 to take the exam again (in addition to the $190 that I've already lost) or if I want to give my notice and find work elsewhere. I may actually be out of a job already since I have to wait a month to retake the exam and my 12-month trial period without being PTCB certified may have already expired by then.
