The thing with stuff like Twilight is that the lesson shouldn't really be 'girls have bad taste'

The lesson should be that this was a demographic that isn't being served by much else on that level and Twilight was there to take advantage of a space that didn't have much competition. You had a whole bunch of girls hungry for more supernatural stuff after the popularity of Harry Potter so it's not a surprise the vampire love story from the perspective of a normal girl made bank in retrospect.

Overall it's still something that is prime to be taken advantage of too. Barbie managed to hit both the nostalgia beats, be a good movie and have something to say and it paid off incredibly well. Taylor Swift shows that if you specifically focus on giving this audience the content that they want that they will be just as loyal and obsessed as nerd fandoms are. Both of these things payoff extra because even though women are the focus it is still good and the appeal is also broad in addition. Just like what happens with stuff with guys as the primary demo.

When the women are given these opportunities to write stuff that appeals to them (and no I don't mean assigning them to make a superhero movie in a larger universe) it's not a surprise that it pays off like other stuff does.
