It seems like everyone is too afraid to make fully next gen games at this point. You could have a ps4 and still not miss out on the majority of games released 4 years into the PS5 gen. Thats ridiculous.

That's tied to the same thing really.

It takes 5-7 years to make a AAA game. Devkits are given 1-2 year before release. So a game that started development in 2019 with PS5 devkits day one would only be coming out now. But then obviously the pandemic would have disrupted everything in 2020 so that would have added more time.

The other thing of course is that these games need like 10+ million to sell. AAA games have a 10-20% console attach rate at most. So they really need to wait until the 50 million mark to actually make a return on proper next gen games.
