Random fact time. Dr Pepper was created here in my hometown. The local Doctor, whose last was Pepper had a soda machine in his office. He'd let people mix and max different flavors. I guess mixing new flavors was his hobby, as one day he created the drink we know.

Iirc he was just going to put it as it's own flavor in his machine, but his son in law stole the formula and sold it, or licenced/branded it, whatever you do to commercialize it. Named it after his father in law, but I think they didn't get along after that as Doctor Pepper felt betrayed.

His office building burned down when I was younger though. So it's just an empty lot, but I'm renting the building that is right next to where it used to be. Can step out the door and down a staircase and be standing on the site where it was created.

I'm actually surprised the town doesn't celebrate it more. The building that burned used to be decorated with Dr Pepper memorabilia, but that's all gone. All that's left is a plaque in the McDonald's. But it was remodeled like the rest several years ago and I don't know if they kept it.
