They spend decades working long hours and dealing with the same nonsense you're currently dealing with. It's not until you specialize that you break away from all that. For instance, I went into virtualization and storage stuff which led into cloud infrastructure. The original goal was IT repair. Sadly, everyone and their mother has the ability to do basic repairs these days, and compared to networking, it just doesn't pay as much.
