It's not a bad game, but Bethesda massively fumbled what could have been an amazing game.

The planets you visit for the main story are all great and well done. But the hundreds of other planets are dull and lifeless. Just barren wastelands with a few ore nodes on them. No flora or fauna anywhere, no old buildings/ruins to explore. A few of those planets have 1 cave on them, but then the cave hardly has anything of note either. The ones I went into all had similar layouts with a few hostile turrets, but no other creatures.

It really starts to give a "what's the point of exploring when there's nothing to see" vibe for most of the planets. It really would have benefited from less planets with more focus on making them having interesting things on them.

And then the space exploration was also massively disappointing. Leaving a planet, undocking from space stations/other ships and traveling to other planets/solar systems? It's all done via menus and cutscenes. So when you hop in your super customizable spaceship, there's hardly any time spent actually controlling it. The only time you're in direct control of it is in the small area in orbit around each planet. If you want to travel to another planet, you can't just fly there (there are invisible walls), you have to fast travel. It makes it all feel very disconnected. I've played indie games that give you more to do in your spaceship than Starfield does.

So yeah, far too much wasted potential for a big AAA title.
