I mean, I just picked something in the same genre (2D actiony platformer) as the hard games people remember of yesteryear. Not like fangames are fake games or anything either so I don't see the problem

If you want a more mainstream example I think a good one is aeterna noctis. It's a 2D action platformer metroidvania that demands far more precision and skill even in early parts of the game than most older games asked for at all, and the only reasonable case you could make for it actually being easier is that it doesn't delete your save file after you die 3 times
