I really wish people wouldn't trot this tired line out every time some piece of shit targets the lgbt community. Not all homophobes are closeted homosexuals, and not all closeted homosexuals are violent or self-loathing.

And I wish I wouldn't get pounced on if I bring it up like it's something that doesn't happen just because you claim it's "tired."

I used to track groups like Exodus International, NARTH, the AFA, the FRC, and all their sordid affiliate groups, and it was a regular thing for someone to be preaching venom against gay people one day and then get caught at a gay club the next. It wasn't even that long ago that yet ANOTHER anti-gay politician got caught with his pants down (figuratively, this time). Look up Randy McNally to see what I'm talking about.

That is the world in which we live, whether you like it or not. It's also a world where the gay panic defense is a thing; think about what the whole basis of that is. It's typically used for situations so similar to this that I wouldn't be surprised for his lawyer to say that he didn't mean to hurt her but was driven to temporary insanity because one of those gay guys looked at him a certain kind of way.

No, I don't think Ben Shapiro is secretly gay or that Anita Bryant is a self-hating gay man in a woman suit, but I'm also aware of the pattern of this happening again and again.
