the medical community's outdated refusal to de-stigmatize euthanasia is revolting.

rather than have a bunch of people unalive themselves in gruesome ways, why can't we just have death doulas or something to ease people into it safely and painlessly

rather than let people turn into shells from Alzheimer's or cancer, why can't doctors just ease their suffering? it's stupid and backwards.

obviously not any sad person should be able to just ask for it, but it really should be easier than it currently is (which is basically impossible in the U.S.)

it's really not all on the medical community. I've worked in nursing homes for a long time, and most of the time the people drawing out the life are the family.

the medical community could come out and say "PSA: let your parents die when they aren't going to get better", but the general public wouldn't receive it well. doctors want to save people they can save. they usually know when a cause is lost, but have to do what the family wants.

and it's not like this woman just decided one day she wanted euthanasia. she probably spent months or years talking to doctors about it
